Despite Dandelion's general lack of resources, the science labs here are quite sophisticated. They have specific lab rooms for biology, chemistry and physics. The biology lab has quite a variety of dissection specimens. In my opinion the physics lab looks much better than the rooms we use for our intro physics classes at Duke. My middle school definitely didn't have anything close to classrooms like these.
However, the biology teacher here told me the labs here at Dandelion are no where near as nice as those in normal Beijing public schools. While she was proud to show me her dissections collection and was happy that I took pictures of them, she still pointed out that any other school would have massive glass cabinets full of animal organs and specimens.
You might notice that many of the containers have the names of other schools and that none of them say "蒲公英中学“ (Dandelion Middle School). That's because our students only get to use specimens that other schools donate (read: do not want anymore according to the biology teacher). They basically only get the leftovers.
